After running a Shopify independent store for a while, what should you do when orders start coming in? The most crucial step is shipping. Some merchants handle shipping themselves, some use dropshipping, others rely on freight forwarders, and some may use overseas warehouses, among other shipping methods.
Once the order is shipped, you’ll receive a tracking number, which needs to be entered in the Shopify backend. This serves two purposes:
Marking the order as fulfilled in the system.
Notifying the customer that their order has been shipped and providing the tracking number so they can monitor delivery progress.
Log in to your Shopify admin dashboard.
Go to Orders.
Find the fulfilled order and click on it.
Click “Fulfill items”.
Enter the tracking number in the designated field.
Check the box “Send shipment details to your customer now” to notify them.
Click “Fulfill items” to finalize the shipment status.

By following these steps, the order will be marked as “Fulfilled”, and the customer will receive an automatic notification with the tracking details. This ensures a smooth post-purchase experience.
