Manage your Shopify account

Manage Your Shopify Account

Access and update your Shopify account settings. This is where you can update your payment information, view your Shopify plan, and check your account owner and store type.

Update Your Billing Settings

Your billing settings include information such as your credit card number and billing address. If you need to update your payment details, you can access them from the Settings menu in your admin panel.

Change Your Credit Card Details

If your credit card number changes, make sure to update it in your Shopify account.

To update your credit card details:

  1. Log in as the account owner.

  2. From your Shopify admin, click Settings, then Account (or press G + S + A).

  3. Under Billing Information, click Change Credit Card.

  4. Fill in the credit card details and click Confirm. Once saved, you’ll return to the main account settings page.

Did you know?
Due to how some banks implement Visa debit cards, certain cards may not be compatible with Shopify’s monthly billing.

Change Your Billing Address

If the address associated with your Shopify account changes, update it in your admin panel.

To update your billing address:

  1. Log in as the account owner.

  2. From your Shopify admin, go to Settings > Account (or press G + S + A).

  3. Under Billing Information, click Change Credit Card.

  4. On the billing information screen, click Change Billing Mailing Address.

  5. Enter your new billing address and click Confirm.

Change Your Billing Cycle

The billing cycle (or billing period) is the length of time between invoices. You can extend this interval, but you can’t choose the specific day of the month for invoicing.

Did you know?
If available for your plan, you may qualify for a discount by agreeing to a longer billing cycle.

To change your billing cycle without switching plans:

  1. Log in as the account owner.

  2. Go to Settings > Account (or press G + S + A).

    • You’ll see a summary of your current plan and billing cycle.

  3. Click Change Plan Type.

  4. Click Change Billing Cycle (if this option isn’t visible, it means extending the billing cycle isn’t available for your current plan).

  5. Select your desired billing cycle.

  6. Review the description of charges and click Confirm Changes to accept the new terms or Cancel if you change your mind.

Note:
Your current billing cycle will close, and an invoice will be sent immediately. A new billing cycle will begin, and you’ll be credited for any unused time you’ve already paid for.

Update Your Plan

If you’re on a trial and want to enroll in a paid plan, or if you’re considering changing your current plan, you can do so from the Settings page in your admin panel.

Check Your Current Plan

To view your current Shopify plan:

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Settings > Account (or press G + S + A).

    • Under Account Overview, you’ll see your current plan.

    • A brief description of the benefits of upgrading will also appear. Click Upgrade Plan if you wish to proceed.

Upgrade Your Plan

If you’re ready to upgrade, you can do so directly from the Account Overview section.

Note:
If you upgrade during your free trial, you won’t lose any progress. Shopify will email you confirming your new billing date.

To upgrade your plan:

  1. Log in as the account owner.

  2. Go to Settings > Account (or press G + S + A).

  3. Click Upgrade Plan.

  4. Click Confirm Upgrade to proceed.

  5. Select a billing cycle, review the charges, and click Confirm Changes or Cancel.

Switch to a Different Plan

If you want to switch to another available plan:

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Settings > Account (or press G + S + A).

  2. Ensure you’re satisfied with your current store type or select a different one.

  3. Under Account Overview, click Change Plan Type.

  4. Select a new plan from the available options.

  5. Choose a billing cycle, review the charges, and click Confirm Changes or Cancel.

Note:
If you change your plan without altering the billing cycle, your payments will adjust accordingly. Otherwise, your current plan’s invoice will close, and a new billing cycle will begin.

Update Your Account Settings

If you need to modify personal account settings (e.g., account ownership), you can do so in the Account Settings section.

Assign a New Account Owner

Your store can have only one account owner at a time. Only the account owner has full access to all sections of the Shopify admin.

Warning:
If you assign ownership to another staff member, you’ll lose unrestricted access and won’t be able to change the account owner again.

To assign a new account owner:

  1. Log in as the current store owner.

  2. Go to Settings > Account (or press G + S + A).

  3. Under Staff Members, click the name of the new owner.

  4. On their profile page, click Make This User the Account Owner.

  5. In the confirmation dialog, click Yes, Transfer Ownership.

Change Your Store Type

As the account owner, you can modify your store type at any time.

To change your store type:

  1. Log in as the account owner.

  2. From your Shopify admin, go to Settings > Sales Channels (or press G + S + L).

    • (If your admin looks different, check under Sales Channels Settings.)

  3. Under Manage Sales Channels, click to add/remove an online store, Shopify POS, or another available type.

  4. Confirm the changes in the dialog box.

Update Your Shopify Email

Your Shopify email is the address used to register your account. This is where invoices and exported CSV files (products, orders, customers) are sent.

To edit your Shopify email:

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Settings.

  2. Under Store Details, locate the Account Email field.

  3. Update your email address and click Save.

Update Your Customer-Facing Email

This is the email address customers see when contacting you about orders or inquiries.

To edit your customer-facing email:

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Settings.

  2. Under Store Details, find the Customer Email field.

  3. Update the email and click Save.
